The 2020 Honda Passport is an excellent two-row crossover SUV. With sporty styling, several trim choices, a powerful engine, impressive performance, and a stylish interior with a host of tech and safety features, Honda has built a fantastic machine for both the commute to work and for off-road weekend exploration.
Honda offers the 2020 Passport in four trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite. All trim levels have a rugged exterior look, reflective of the Passport’s adventurous nature. The Sport trim provides exterior features like keyless entry and ignition and LED headlights. The EX-L trim adds appealing elements like a power tailgate, moon roof, and walk away auto-lock feature. The Touring trim introduces additional details, including roof rails and front and rear parking sensors. Finally, the top-of-the-line Elite trim offers high-end components like auto-dimming, heated, and power-folding side mirrors with LED turn indicators.
All trim levels of the 2020 Passport feature the same highly capable engine. A 3.5-liter V-6 motor comes standard, paired to a capable nine-speed automatic transmission, able to make 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard for the first three trim levels of the 2020 Passport: the Sport, EX-L, and Touring. All-wheel drive is standard for the top-trim Elite, and optional for all other trim levels. Whether paired to the front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive powertrain, the V-6 provides plenty of power for on- and off-road adventures.
The included V-6 engine is the same as in the much larger Honda Pilot, so you know it provides sufficient capacity for this smaller crossover. The nine-speed transmission pairs nicely with the engine, producing substantial acceleration when you need it. The well-designed suspension does an excellent job of smoothing out rough terrain both on paved surfaces and off-road. With substantial ground clearance (7.5 inches on front-wheel drive models and 8.1 inches on all-wheel drive models), the Passport can manage most surfaces. It’s also rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds.
The Passport seats five, with comfortable cloth seats in the base model and leather-trimmed, heated seats in the remaining models. The rear seats fold flat to allow for extended storage and cargo hauling. All trim levels feature convenient push-button start and niceties like seat back pockets and optional rear-heated seats. The base Sport model includes a 5-inch color LCD screen with Bluetooth connectivity and an auxiliary jack connection. All other models feature an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, CabinControl Remote Compatibility, SiriusXM Radio, and HD Radio. The top two trims add Wi-Fi hotspot capability and the top-of-the-line Elite includes a wireless phone charger.
Honda doesn’t skimp on the safety in the 2020 Passport. All trim levels include an impressive number of driver-assist safety features from the suite of Honda Sensing Safety and Driver-Assistive Technologies. All trim levels offer forward-collision warning with automatic braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, a rearview camera, and automatic high-beam headlights. Additional available features include blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert.
